PROSPECTION FOR NEW IUC PARTNERSHIPS
In the light of discussions with the Belgian Minister of Development Cooperation concerning a concentration of aid interventions and a focus on a more limited number of countries for UDC, the Bureau UOS decided in March 2010 that the focus for a next IUC call will be on the partner countries of the Belgian development cooperation.
Within this group of partner countries, priority was given to start prospection in the a number of countries where VLIR-UOS has a strong history and further strategy development is realistic on short notice. In March 2011 a proposal was launched to start further strategy development in view of IUC identification in 7 countries. Ethiopia and DR Congo obviously already have a country focus. The next countries where a country strategy will be developed are Cuba (non DGD partner country), Ecuador, Tanzania, Uganda and Vietnam (4 DGD partner countries). The objective is to land by mid 2012 with 5 defined country strategies (DRC/Ethiopia not included) and a number of new IUC partners in those countries which could start a pre partner programme in the course of 2012.

ESPOL: Results from 10 Years of IUC Partnership The IUC partnership with the Escuela Superior Politecnica Del Litoral (ESPOL) started in 1998 and was spread over 10 years. VLIR-UOS is very pleased with the impact and the benefits of the cooperation and hopes to achieve the same or better results with the other partner programmes. Now ESPOL collected stories from people who are or were involved in the IUC programme, in order to draw lessons from them. This resulted in the attractive publication 'Lessons Learned - Story Telling Guide', edited both in English and Spanish (available on the bottom of this page). There was also a book published about the ESPOL partnership, which can be requested in pdf-format by mailing to katrien.windels[at]vliruos.be. | |
